It’s Canada’s turn next!

The IFAJ torch – or should I say flag – has officially been passed to Canada as we formally assumed the role of host nation at the farewell banquet of this year’s congress in Belgium.
The International Federation of Agriculture Journalists (IFAJ) hosts its annual conference, called a congress, in a different member country every year. In 2011, Canada will be welcoming farm writers and agricultural communicators to our country for the first time in over forty years. More...

2009 Star Prize Winner for Agricultural Journalism

Friederike Krick of Germany is this year's winner of the IFAJ Star Prize for print journalism. The award was made at the 2009 International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) Congress in Fort Worth, Texas.
John Conroy of Australia was named runner-up, and Caitriona Murphy of Ireland received honourable mention.
Commendations were given to Gord Gilmour of Canada, and Tim Cronshaw of New Zealand.
The Star Prize for print journalism is sponsored by John Deere. The winner receives a commemorative trophy, a gold IFAJ pin and a 750 Euro cash prize. The runner up receives a 250 Euro cash prize.
Krick's article, Die letzten Zeugen (The last witnesses), appeared in the German farmer magazine Neue Landwirtschaft. Conroy's entry, The Drover's Lament, was published in The Border Mail. Ireland's Murphy wrote Caring of the Softest Kind for Farming Independent.
From Canada, Gilmour's entry Hot Seat appeared in Country Guide. New Zealand's Tim Cronshow wrote Breakthrough for The Press, Christchurch.
Judges for this year's competition were Margaret Donnelly of Ireland, Adrian Krebs of Switzerland and Dana Vecerova of the Czech Republic. The competition coordinator was IFAJ secretary general Owen Roberts of Canada.
