It’s Canada’s turn next!

The IFAJ torch – or should I say flag – has officially been passed to Canada as we formally assumed the role of host nation at the farewell banquet of this year’s congress in Belgium.
The International Federation of Agriculture Journalists (IFAJ) hosts its annual conference, called a congress, in a different member country every year. In 2011, Canada will be welcoming farm writers and agricultural communicators to our country for the first time in over forty years. More...

IFAJ-Alltech young leader award winners announced
Ten young agricultural journalists from around the world have won awards to attend the 2010 IFAJ Congress in Belgium.

The IFAJ-Alltech Young Leaders in Agricultural Journalism awards recognize the leadership potential of young members from countries belonging to IFAJ. Recipients each receive 1,000 Euros to support their participation at an IFAJ Congress.
Winners of the 2010 IFAJ-Alltech Young Leaders in Agricultural Journalism awards are:

“We live in a fast-paced world that demands an increasingly global perspective for professional communicators,” says IFAJ President Mike Wilson, USA. “Through this partnership with Alltech, the IFAJ can provide young journalists with that perspective by networking with other colleagues at our annual congresses.”
Award winners were nominated by their country’s respective farm-writing guilds. The final selection was made by an IFAJ committee comprising secretary general Owen Roberts, Canada (chair), Hans Siemes, Netherlands, and JoAnn Alumbaugh, USA.
Winners will contribute a 500-word story or a three-minute broadcast about their Congress experiences to IFAJ News or the federation’s website, www.ifaj.org.
The IFAJ-Alltech Young Leaders in Agricultural Journalism awards are now in their fifth year. Growing from two journalists in year one, the awards now support 10 journalists, thanks to a commitment from Alltech, a global animal health company.
“Alltech firmly believes in the power of the younger generations and in their ability to change the world,” says Alltech President Dr. Pearse Lyons. “Through their articles and broadcasts, these young people can bring the latest technological breakthroughs to the farmers and influencers in all parts of the world. It is the adoption of these technologies that will help agriculture bounce back in 2010.”
IFAJ is a non-political, professional association for agricultural journalists. IFAJ supports and encourages the practice of agricultural journalism in countries embracing freedom of the press.
