The IFAJ torch – or should I say flag – has officially been passed to Canada as we formally assumed the role of host nation at the farewell banquet of this year’s congress in Belgium.

IFAJ Congress Application Form

 

Background. The International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) holds its annual meeting (called a congress) in a different member country each year. The congress is designed to help journalists gain professional development skills, create networking opportunities with other journalists and news sources, and provide a conduit to stories highlighting the host nation’s agriculture and food.  IFAJ members rate networking opportunities at congresses as among the most valued aspect of their IFAJ membership. 

Criteria. The IFAJ host country liaison committee evaluates a prospective host country’s application based on criteria found below, then recommends an applicant to the IFAJ executive for approval.

The key criteria are the following: 

1.    News story variety and potential
2.
    Budget
3.    Time since having last hosted a congress.
