Annual congress IFAJ 2011
It’s Canada’s turn next!
By Lilian Schaer, IFAJ 2011 Co-Chair
The IFAJ torch – or should I say flag – has officially been passed to Canada as we formally assumed the role of host nation at the farewell banquet of this year’s congress in Belgium.
The International Federation of Agriculture Journalists (IFAJ) hosts its annual conference, called a congress, in a different member country every year. In 2011, Canada will be welcoming farm writers and agricultural communicators to our country for the first time in over forty years. More...

Dacian Cioloş to address post-congress symposium
NEWLY appointed EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Cioloş will be the principal speaker at an invitation-only symposium on the Future of the Common Agricultural Policy during the post-congress part of the IFAJ 54th annual congress in April.
Billed by the organisers, the European Commission, as a dialogue with international journalists, the symposium will include presentations on the Common Agricultural Policy in a world context, and on perspectives for rural development after 2013 by Jerzy Plewa and Josefine Loriz-Hoffmann of the Commission.
The event, in the Charlemagne Building in Brussels, will run from 9am to lunchtime on Thursday, April 22.
It will give IFAJ members a valuable insight into the reform after 2013 of the €50 billion per year policy for agriculture and rural development in the EU, which is the world’s No 1 agriculture trading bloc.
