CONTEST RULES

Description: The International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) invites national agricultural journalist associations affiliated with the IFAJ to enter one story per country in a contest recognising the best agricultural writing of 2007. The prize is called the IFAJ Star Prize for Agricultural Journalism.
Who is eligible to enter?

  • Each national agricultural journalist association, that is a member in good standing of the IFAJ, will decide on eligibility criteria for their own country, so they can select one entry to represent their association in the IFAJ Star Prize for Agricultural Journalism.

Entry Fee

  • There is no entry fee. Entries can only be made by national agricultural journalist associations that are members in good standing of the IFAJ.

What written articles are eligible to be entered?
To be eligible for entry, the article must be:

  • A story of wide agricultural interest (multiple articles that make up a series are not allowed. In such a situation, select one article from the series to enter).
  • Written by an individual or by more than one individual.
  • Published as editorial material between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2007, in the print media or online.
  • Written in English, German or French. Articles published in a language other than these three should be translated into one of these languages to assist the judging process.

Submission Procedure:

  • The text of the article in English, German or French must be submitted electronically as an attachment to an e-mail file and sent to starprize@ifaj.org by the deadline.
  • The following information must be provided in the e-mail to which the article is attached:

A. Name, address, e-mail address and telephone number of the entrant.
B. The name of the publication or website where the article was published along with the date and issue of the publication.

  • A tear sheet or photocopy of the article as it appeared in the publication or online must be posted to Marina Tell, Grandalen, 184 38 Akersberga, Sweden, postmarked no later than June 1, 2008.
  • If the article was published in a language other than the official languages of IFAJ (English, German or French), the tear sheet of the article must be accompanied by a complete translation.
  • IFAJ offers member countries assistance of up to 100 Euro each to cover translation costs for prospective entries not in an official language.

Entry Deadline: June 1st, 2008
Judging Criteria:
Writing will be judged on the following:

  • Style 25%
  • Content 50%
  • Objectivity/Balance 25%

The layout and design of the article will not be considered in the judging.
Award:

  • The prize winner will be awarded a trophy, a gold IFAJ pin, a certificate and a cash prize of 750 Euros.
  • The second place winner will be awarded a gold IFAJ pin, a certificate, and a cash prize of 250 Euros.
  • The awards will be announced on September 1, 2008, via the IFAJ website. The winner will also be honoured during the annual IFAJ Congress in Austria, September 10-14, 2008.
