A photography webinar featuring creative director Janice Thoroughgood of Farm Credit Canada is now available for on-demand viewing on the IFAJ website. The webinar, “Photography from the Perspective of a Creative Director,” was broadcast live on 16 January. Journalists from around the world tuned in via GoToMeeting to hear Thoroughgood’s tips on lighting, composition, cropping and other elements that differentiate great photos from good ones.

Thoroughgood—who has served as a judge for the IFAJ Star Prize for Photography—also demonstrated how she uses photos, detailing the factors that make an image versatile from a design perspective.
“Janice shared a wonderful perspective on photography,” said Steve Werblow, IFAJ secretary-general. “We often tell farmers and food processors how important it is to focus on the needs of their customers. In this webinar, Janice shared what she, as a customer of photographers, wants from an image. That’s valuable information for those of us who are in the business of giving editors and designers what they’re looking for.
“Our plan is to follow up this webinar with presentations on other topics that are of interest to IFAJ members across the globe,” Werblow added. “Live webcasts offer outstanding opportunities to engage in conversations with presenters, and posting the recorded presentations makes it easy for any member, anywhere, to access that insight any time. What a great way to achieve our goal to deliver professional development to our members.”
