PRETORIA, South Africa (3 April, 2017)—Kallee Buchanan of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) received the Star Prize for Broadcasting—Digital Media from the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) for her multimedia “Inside the Secret, Fleeting Sex Life of Tropical Dragon Fruit” on ABC’s website.
Buchanan was presented with a 1,000-Euro check at a ceremony Monday night at IFAJ’s World Congress in Pretoria, South Africa.
“Kallee’s entry combined writing, and photography in a beautifully executed package that our panel of judges recognized as truly world-class,” said Steve Werblow, IFAJ secretary general. “The angle was unique, the information was presented artfully, and the package delivered a great user experience.
One judge applauded Buchanan’s “very strong and clever use of the various tools for telling a good digital story.”
The judging panel for the Star Prize for Broadcast included veteran broadcasters Ian Petrie of Canada, Ken Rundle of the United Kingdom, and Australian Neil Inall. Leigh Radford of Australia’s ABC coordinated the Broadcast awards.
