Growing cotton with blockchain
This was a multi-channel content project, including a global podcast – the Science Behind your Salad, an online story, accompanying infographics and film for the website and for a social media campaign.
The assets aimed to tell the story of cotton growing around the world, the environmental challenges of cotton growing, the history of the crop (including reference to slavery) and the first use of blockchain as a technology to provide assurance to clothing buyers about how the crop was grown, by who and using which management/agronomic/sustainability practices. The blockchain covers all players in the chain and aims to pay more to growers for their cotton. The story also captures the vision of the Greek farmers – that all cotton clothing should include who grew the cotton, how and where. Jane researched and hosted the podcast, interviewed for an wrote the accompanying web story, created the digital assets (films, infogrpahics) To explain complexities in the supply chain, blockchain and the market, I produced a number of explanatory videos and infographic videos, which also provided the necessary assets for social media.
The purpose of the project was to explain cotton growing and the introduction of blockchain to create transparency and trust in the goods that end consumers buy. Also addressing the issue of unsustainable fashion ‘fast fashion’ It was, I believe a comprehensive, rich, innovation-led, farm to end consumer piece of storytelling across multiple channels.
