Kameroku Takimoto

Kameroku Takimoto, a sericulture farmer with 56 years of experience, spends two weeks shuttling back and forth between the mulberry fields and the silkworm room from 3 am to midnight.

In 2018, a nearby river flood wiped out all of his silkworms, which caused him to almost consider quitting sericulture. But his grandson’s decision to follow in his footsteps has inspired Takimoto-san to continue sericulture once again.

The world renowned silk produced in this region, Ehime, was used for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation dress. The industries of sericulture and hand-twining of silk thread continue on to this day.
