MIKE ABRAM OF THE UNITED KINGDOM WINS INTERNATIONAL PRIZE FOR TECHNOLOGY STORY
INTERLAKEN, Switzerland (August 15, 2024)—Mike Abram of the United Kingdom was recognized by the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) with its Star Prize for Technology, the organization’s honor for the best reporting on the theme of Technology in its worldwide competition. The award was announced at IFAJ’s World Congress in Interlaken, Switzerland, on August 15.
Abram’s article, “What Are the Prospects for Drone Spraying in the UK?,” appeared in Farmers Weekly. Judges noted that it is a “thorough piece making good use of multiple sources and introducing new technology to the audience.”
“Mike Abram’s story on drone spraying is a fine example of how a good writer can make complicated stories accessible to an audience,” notes Addy Rossi, IFAJ secretary-general. “Writing about technology can be very challenging, and Mike demonstrates how it can be done on a world-class level.”
Frederik Thalbitzer of LandbrugsMedierne in Denmark received a runner-up recognition in the Technology category for “University Measures Methane When Hans’ Cows Burp in the Milking Robot.”
Judges of the Technology category of the Star Prize were Jesús López Colmenarejo of Editorial Agrícola in Spain and Kallee Buchanan of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
