Sunflower Smiles

Bring Me Sunflowers HOT and dry weather is having an unexpected impact on a crop of sunflowers, grown by an enterprising young Ashbourne couple in Wyaston. Andy and Meg Adams, of Pumpkin Corner, have sowed a crop of the bright-yellow blooms for the second year running at their small field off Wyaston Lane, which doubles in the autumn as “Pumpkin Corner”. Visitors are invited to turn up at the one-acre plot with a pair of secateurs and pick their own sunflower every day from 10am until 5pm.

The couple in the picture farm in partnership with Andy’s family and were looking for a diversification project of their own to bring in additional money. They started “Pumpkin Corner” on a piece of their own land and decided to extend it’s use by growing a crop of Sunflowers on part of the land in the summer and pumpkins on the other half for October harvest
