Kenya, Slovenia are new members of IFAJ

During its meeting at the annual congress of IFAJ in Fort Worth, Texas, the General Assembly of IFAJ approved Kenya and Slovenia as new members of IFAJ.

Both countries submited their applications at the beginning of this year and their applications were judged by many criteria, including freedom of press. In both cases the Membership benefit/outreach Committee decided to recommend to the General Assembly to approve both countries as new members of IFAJ.

Kenya’s guild is called Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture in Kenya (MESHA). It is an association of communicators who specialize in science, environment, agriculture, health, technology and development reporting. It is a non-partisan and not-for-profit organization. It was established December 31, 2008 and has 30 members.

One of their main motivatins for joining IFAJ was the need to encourage more agricultural journalism in Kenya. To learn more about MESHA, go to their website at: www.meshanet.org

The Association of Agricultural Journalists of Slovenia is a professional organization that unites all persons who work in the field of providing the public with information on agriculture, forestry, food processing and life in rural areas of Slovenia. The AAJS was founded  
on January 12, 2009.
