Fresh off the success of this year’s press visit to Istanbul and Antalya, Türkiye, for the World Seed Congress, IFAJ members have another opportunity to pursue leads and stories featuring the seed sector.
Now into its second year, the partnership between the International Seed Federation and IFAJ has so far seen 25 members, from more than 20 member countries, invited to ISF’s World Seed Congress.
“Just a few years ago, this was a closed congress, with no journalists invited,” says Adrian Bell, IFAJ’s secretary general. “But while it’s taken a few years to build the relationship with ISF, as is often the case with IFAJ partnerships, that relationship is now flourishing.
“They’ve seen the value that our members can bring, and the work that they do to facilitate the flow of information and insight to an industry that thrives on knowledge.
“IFAJ members’ presence, and the high standard of coverage that press trip participants have generated, has been noticed by others in the industry. That’s how this latest opportunity has arisen,” says Adrian.
This time it’s the turn of the Regional Seed Association in the Americas (SAA), which is holding its Congress from 29 Sep – 1 Oct at the Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil.
The two-and-a-half-day event is themed ‘Promoting the Seed Business in the Americas’, and promises plenary sessions and specialised panels offering learning, innovation and networking. Among the topics expected to feature are trade, regulations, sustainability and the emerging technologies that are transforming the seed industry.
Airah Cadiogan, communications manager for ISF, says SAA would like to invite South American-based IFAJ members to the Congress, with registration fees waived.
“We are also exploring, as with the main ISF Congress, potential funding support for interested journalists. This hasn’t yet been confirmed, but once we understand the level of interest amongst South American IFAJ members, we will be better placed to prepare support.”
