DAVID EKSTROM AND JUSTIN DAVEY OF THE U.S. RECEIVE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURAL JOURNALISTS’ STAR PRIZE FOR DIGITAL MEDIA

American agricultural journalists David Ekstrom and Justin Davey received the 2022 Star Prize for Digital Media from the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) for “FFA Is One Big Ohana” on the FFA New Horizons website. The award was announced at the IFAJ World Congress in Vingsted, Denmark on June 27.

Judges wrote that the multimedia coverage constituted “a strong story with plenty of background context and student contributions. The inclusion of extras like lesson plans for others makes it an excellent website feature.”

“Agriculture—and student activities—have the life and color to come alive through digital media, and every day more of our audience goes online to seek content,” noted Adalberto Rossi, IFAJ secretary-general. “David Ekstrom and Justin Davey, along with the other outstanding entrants in the Star Prize competition from around the world, are showing us how to make great use of the power of the internet.”

Judging of the digital media competition was coordinated by Leigh Radford, a long-time veteran of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and the panel included Ian Petrie of Canada, Prue Adams of Australia, and Ken Rundle of the U.K. The judges awarded a runner-up prize to Morten Damsgaard and Uffe Kristensen of Denmark for “When the Articulated Mastodons Meet” on the Maskinbladet.dk website.
