NAIROBI, Kenya (October 18, 2025) — John Eveson of United Kingdom was recognized by the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) with its Star Prize for Photography, the organization’s honor for the best photograph in its worldwide competition.
Eveson is a member of the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists. The award was announced at IFAJ’s World Congress in Nairobi, Kenya, on October 18.
Judges highlighted the skill behind Eveson’s photo: “This photo has all the elements to be a top contender in the class, such as low angle, excellent lighting and composition. Getting all those sheep to line up for a portrait is quite a trick and takes lots of patience. The photo might benefit by cropping from the top and bottom to make a stronger horizontal.”
“What an intriguing photo! There’s an other-wordly quality that combines with the strong technical aspects, such as the line, great focus all the way through, and the angle,” notes Adrian Bell, IFAJ secretary-general.
Jason Jenkins and Katie Knapp of the United States received a runner-up Star Prize for Photography for “Transitioning Beltex flock from commercial to pedigree” and “Checking Pivots”.
Judges of the Photography category included Johnnie Belinda Cluff of New Zealand and Greg Lamp of the United States.
